Source says #Phillies avoided arbitration with Andrew Knapp, agreeing on a one-year, $710,000 contract.
Backup catcher Andrew Knapp, eligible for salary arbitration for the first time, signs one-year, $710,000 contract to stay with #Phillies.
Andrew Knapp still has three minor league options AND rosters expand to 26 in 2020. This was a no-brainer, even if it would behoove the Phillies to continue to look for upgrades to backup J.T. Realmuto. https://t.co/C99G7Mpmw4
The list of arbitration-eligible players for the Phillies shrunk from nine to eight as Andrew Knapp and the club have agreed on a one-year deal.
Just by agreeing to a contract, it doesn't mean Andrew Knapp is guaranteed a spot on the opening day roster. It does mean the team does not hate him like fans do
Phillies pitchers when Andrew Knapp was catching -
4.24 ERA, .763 OPS against, 2.81 K/BB
Phillies pitchers when Andrew Knapp was not catching -
4.61 ERA, .793 OPS against, 2.48 K/BB
Really makes you think!
Find yourself someone who will keep giving you chances despite your many, many faults the way that the Phillies keep giving Andrew Knapp chances despite his many, many faults. https://t.co/605UPzgPzZ
All things considered, I don’t actually hate the idea of this.
Paying near league minimum for a *meh* backup catcher to stash in Triple-A? I’m cool with that.
That said, there is no reality in which Andrew Knapp should serve as the Phillies primary backup catcher in 2020. None.
The morning after one of the worst Eagles losses in years, the Phillies announce they've resigned Andrew Knapp https://t.co/0YonJbkAFe
I am going to put this in the most blunt and callous way possible. It costs the Phillies a negligible amount of money (for them) and no long term problems to cut Andrew Knapp tomorrow. So keeping him comes with functionally no downside right now.
Imagine loving Andrew Knapp so much that you wanna lay him 700K to be a .180 hitting backup catcher who is unable to throw out any base stealers
Andrew Knapp worked in the minor leagues making negative dollars for five years in the hopes he would get a sick major league baseball payday which turned out to be seven hundred thousand dollars I can not be mad at him
Andrew Knapp is to the Phillies what Mack Hollins is to the Eagles
Flyers: “hey we’re pretty good right now”
Sixers: undefeated at home
Phillies: “We’ve resigned Andrew Knapp”
You can give Andrew Knapp seven hundred and ten thousand dollars, but you can't stop the people from being pissed about it.
That old lady who’s been selling peanuts since the Veterans Stadium days contributes more to the team than Andrew Knapp. “PEA—Nuhhtz! PEA—Nuhhtz!!”
Also add, “brought back Andrew Knapp for legit no reason”
tendering Andrew Knapp is YOUR fault, Philadelphia. So quit whining. Don't you know by now if you want someone or something, you have to get Middleton's attention on Twitter and I didn't see a single poll asking if you'd rather have Knapp or a flesh-eating bacteria.
Who’s idea was it to sign Andrew Knapp
My day is officially ruined with the Andrew Knapp news
#Phillies sign C Andrew Knapp to a 1 Yr $700 K contract #MLB
