Bercow is one of the few heroes of Brexit. He made it possible for Parliament to do its job of holding the government accountable to the people after decades when the subservience of the House of Commons to No 10 had become the first article of Britain’s unwritten constitution
Am hearing moves afoot for an emergency SO24 Commons debate with a potential vote forcing May to rewrite EU letter to include longer extension option. Bercow hinted SO24 rules could be bent earlier this week to make it substantive not neutral notion. Expect fresh govt panic.
Andrea Leadsom is fast becoming a logical choice for new leader of the @Conservatives. She now has the experience that she lacked in her run against Theresa May in 2016 and, more importantly for me, she's a Brexiteer who hates John Bercow. 😍😍😍
1. Bercow allows third vote, Labour back it, MV3 passes --> Brexit in June;
2. No third vote or deal is voted down --> No-deal Brexit in 9 days;
3. Panic in House of Commons, MPs vote to revoke Article 50 --> We remain in EU but face international derision
Speaker rules in favour of Keir Starmer's bid for emergency debate on length of Brexit extension using Standing Order 24. Says it needs 40 MPs to rise to validate application. Entire Labour/SNP/Plaid side of house rises. Bercow rules that debate should happen immediately. Jings
Through the fog: They vote next week on a binary choice. Back May and get a vassal-Brexit on June 30th. Reject May and get a clean-break Full-Brexit on March 29th. Whatever little Bercow and Saturday’s soft-shoe shufflers say, THAT is now the choice #Brexit #BrexitAlliance
Am I missing something here? Bercow said May's deal cannot be voted on a 3rd time. Today she is saying Parliament need to back her deal next week. How does that work? Is she deaf as well as being a fucking lying bastard?
I would have said @josephmdurso made an absolute fool of himself here and behaved like a troll.
Also “it’s a very old precedent” was laughably embarrassing.
The Speaker, on the other hand, rises in our collective estimation by the hour.
You’re a disgrace @BBCNews
@wesstreeting@Dannyceres@theresa_may You would have thought Wes that the slaying of Jo Cox would have made May wind her neck in a bit right?
Look at #Bercow yesterday?
Hounded like a paparazzi target minus the mopeds.
If anybody says that politics is in good rude health need to seek professional help and quick.
Today in our @ul_ssps staff research seminar, our colleague @MarkBennister presents his immaculately timed ethnographic research, where he followed around John Bercow while he did his job. I swear this has been planned for months

Thanks to recent decisions by House Speaker John Bercow and EU President Donald Tusk, Theresa May has nine days to get the UK Parliament to agree to a "substantially different" #Brexit deal.
The country faces socioeconomic disaster if she fails. #pressure
@HouseofCommons Speaker, John Bercow said the government cannot bring back the meaningful vote again to #parliament
#DonaldTusk ultimatum #French may then veto an extension, meaning that the #UK will have to leave on 29th March as scheduled #Hardbrexit
@BBCNews This is absolutely ridiculous that BBC is able to harass Bercow because BBC execs don't like how this sh*t show they and their masters at No10 want so very badly. This journo should really just go over to rag tag journo..
I was waiting (and waiting) for some sort of new announcement like a GE or May standing down.
But no, all we got was the same old mantra, and blaming everyone else but herself.
The EU had already said no, Bercow has said no, so pointless. #MayMustGo
@profsked@Sundayroast2017 The pro remain bugles .... what else can they do ... Tusk has said no extension without her deal being agreed and no renegotiation . Bercow has said no MV3 without changes. She’s snookered . Out we go and she should follow it !🏴🏴
@JolyonMaugham Thanks for the thread - very useful and a concise explanation but I'm still wondering how Parliament can revoke Article 50. Does Bercow have the authority to by-pass the executive, who to be fair have been acting in bad faith and put it to HofC for a vote?
Scene from Italy, one of the EU Member States that must continue to be obsessed with countering the effects of lunatic EU policies in April & thereafter. UK can soon be free thanks to sanity of its majority EURef voting patriots if Speaker Bercow stands firm to deny MV3! https://t.co/bxNGV2Tltj
All reports indicate that May intends to ram her ‘deal’ through parliament next week but how can she if Bercow has ruled it out? No-one seems to be reconciling these two notions? She can’t bring it back can she otherwise what’s the point of Bercow ruling and anger at it?
