It’s ok to say that losing Borgen isn’t the end of the world while also acknowledging that they lost a cheap NHL asset that they spent 5 years developing for nothing & may have been avoidable.
Both are true.
Breaking: Defenseman Will Borgen was the Seattle Kraken's selection from the Buffalo Sabres, per sources.
I didn't want them to take Borgen either but like I'm not going to get that upset over a 24 year old Defensemen who has only play 14 NHL games so far.
It's only terrible if they don't trade Ristolainen, but assuming they finally trade him, it's fine.
Best of luck to Will Borgen as he moves on to Seattle. No doubt he'll be a rock-solid contributor out west. https://t.co/t01eVQ63Zb
Yeah maybe some of us are “overreacting” about Borgen. But this is just another cherry on top of what’s been a decade of mismanagement of assets, piss poor scouting, a Coaching/GM carousel, thinking Ristos ceiling was higher than it is, & owners who refuse to admit they’re wrong

How do I feel about the Sabres losing Borgen? Nothing. I’m numb. Zero emotion.
With 29 of 30 #SEAKraken picks confirmed, here's where they stand salary cap-wise:
Total Cap Hit: $49,448,333
Cap Space: $32,051,667
Still need to sign RFAs True, Twarynski, Lind, Borgen, C. Fleury, and Dunn. Also Oleksiak UFA signing not factored in here since no details yet.
According to a report from TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the #Sabres have lost defenseman Will Borgen to the #SeaKraken in the Expansion Draft, which will be announced later tonight. @pham1717

Bye bye Borgen. Gotta be exciting to be a part of this new franchise. If only Buffalo could pick their team as if they were an expansion team again. Sigh...
I think it’s too soon to make that call. Depends on the return for Ristolainen and how Borgen develops. There’s a chance he ends up on waivers if he doesn’t make the team.
Of course they took Will Borgen, why would they take any of the junk that's languished on this roster for years? Nobody wants our damaged goods. #Sabres https://t.co/SVx8Ed35pt
GMJB may know Risto's trade value, and push to get him so they could flip him for more value than Borgen. Protecting Risto was the right move, as long as they trade him.
Agree. Hoping they trade Risto soon to quiet the Borgen lovers.
Confused by the wording here. The current regime has different views on players than the one that proceeded them. A cap hit over $5 million for Risto is far different than a small gamble on Borgen. Apples and oranges.
If Sabres get 1 of the following for Ristolainen from MTL or WPG then it was worth losing Borgen.
2nd round pick
2nd round pick
I’ll believe this, but did no one in the org know about Botterill’s feeling on Borgen? If they left Ristolainen unprotected, would Botterill have pushed for him? I have very little confidence that this is simply fate. All prior evidence points to the Sabres screwing up somewhere.
Borgen is real good but really intense. Got any other recommendations?
Hey Will Borgen: just in case you need someone to talk to after years traumatic years in the Sabres system, these guys 👇 are “listening”🤣 https://t.co/GwcL0Cx9b1
