Key moment from Donoghue: Trump told him to “just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the republican congressmen.”
Today's DOJ witnesses, Jeff Rosen, Rich Donoghue & Steven Engel were all presidentially appointed-by Trump-& Senate confirmed.
Donoghue recorded a direct quote from Trump: "Just say that the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and Republican congressmen."
If Jeffrey Clark is as inept as Jeffrey Rosen. Richard Donoghue, and Eric Herschmann described him, the Feds must've had a field day finding evidence when they searched his home! This is getting JUICY!!!
https://t.co/QTCiI8rsu5"What you are doing is nothing less than the United States Justice Department meddling in the outcome of a presidential election." - Acting AG Richard Donoghue to Jeffrey Clark
Trump's plot to corrupt DOJ was so far along that WH call logs designated Jeff Clark as AG before meeting where Rosen & Donoghue faced Trump down, told him DOJ senior officials were all ready to resign if he made Clark AG.

Jeff Clark got blunt responses.
Eric Herschmann: "The only thing you know about environmental & election challenges is that they both start with E."
Rich Donoghue: "You're an environmental lawyer. How about you go back to your office & we'll call you when there's an oil spill."
If Democrats don't cut ads from Richard Donoghue's remarks to Trump in the Oval Office and run them straight through the midterms, it'll be an enormous missed opportunity.

"[DOJ] functions on facts, evidence, and law. And those aren't going to change. You can have whatever leadership you want, but the Department’s position isn't going to change." -- Former Deputy AG Donoghue in response to Trump's threats

Trump told acting Deputy Attorney General Donoghue: “Just say that the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the Republican congressmen.”

Donoghue says that on December 27, 2020, Trump urged him to simply declare the election "corrupt" and then just "leave the rest to me and Republican congressmen." Donoghue has contemporaneous notes backing this up.

“Just say that the election was corrupt, and leave the rest to me and the Republican congressmen.”
— Donald Trump to his DOJ, per notes from former Acting Deputy Attorney General Richard Donoghue

Rich Donoghue, the former acting deputy AG, notes how he went through each of Trump’s election fraud allegations including “a driver who claimed to move a trailer of ballots from NY to Pa. “We knew it wasn’t true,” he said.
After an exchange of texts between Meadows and Perry to elevate Clark to AG, Perry called Donoghue at the direction of Donald to talk about PA and the allegation that they certified more votes than had been cast. 1/
A direct quote from Donald Trump to Richard Donoghue: "Just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the Republican congressmen."
117/ It appears the only thing that stopped Trump was that Donoghue told Trump, "You’re going to lose your entire Department leadership."
Donoghue then described for Trump a *total collapse of the Department of Justice across the entire United States*.
Read that sentence twice.
Richard Donoghue keeps making this point that Jeff Clark was never a criminal lawyer and I can't help but remind everyone that Richard Nixon put a fucking municipal bond attorney in charge of DOJ
"The president said, 'what do I have to lose?' And it was actually a good opening because I said, 'Mr. President, you have a great deal to lose'" -- Donoghue on what he told Trump as he was considering firing Rosen and replacing him with Clark

"You're going to lose your entire [DOJ] leadership ... you could have hundreds of hundreds of resignations of the leadership of your entire Justice Department because of your actions. What that's going to say about you?"- Donoghue on what he told Trump about possibly firing Rosen

Donoghue says he bluntly and clearly told Trump the allegations were simply not true. Piece by piece, one theory to another -- all false.
.
@AdamKinzinger hammers the point that Trump granted Donoghue’s assertion that the election was valid and said that it didn't matter. "Just say the election is corrupt and leave the rest to me.” Not new info, but it speaks to Trump’s thinking and whether he knew he was wrong
Richard Donoghue’s testified, he told Donald Trump “the DOJ can’t and won’t snap its fingers and change the outcome of the election,”
Trump replied with his plan:
“Just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the Republican Congressmen.”

https://t.co/rowU7ceIFLAt end of meeting, Donoghue says Trump said he should just remove both Rosen and Donoghue and put Clark in so something would get done. Donoghue says Trump should have the leadership he wanted, but the DOJ's position was not going to change. #HATH
Richard Donoghue: “Mr. President, within 24, 48, 72 hours, you could have hundreds and hundreds of resignations of the leadership of your entire Justice Department because of your actions. What is that going to say about you?”

Donoghue details how the consensus of DOJ officials was that they would resign if Rosen was fired and replaced by Clark.

Acting Deputy AG Donoghue says President Trump told him, after being told there was no evidence of fraud:
"Just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the Republican congressmen."
Donoghue testifies that Trump told him, "people tell me that I should just remove you and make a change in leadership, put Jeff Clark in, and maybe something will get done" on overturning the election.
