Freiermuth improves the running game. Let's get that straight. The loss of Vance McDonald was really flying under the radar. They needed a TE badly to succeed Eric Ebron.
But this does sting to pass on Creed. Still, I won't complain.
Pat Freiermuth is a Matt Canada H-Back if there ever was one. Strong hands, powerful blocker, can play H-Back, in-line, split out, and be a mismatch in multiple areas of the field.
Having no H-Back, especially since Ebron isn't a blocker, would limit Canada's offense badly.
A tight end could only be a surprise to someone who could identify on the existing roster a) depth behind Ebron b) a tight end who can block c) a tight end who doesn't drop everything in sight.
It was a legit need.
Six more picks. They'll get to O-line. I'm betting it's next.
Good luck covering the #Steelers this year @nfl
TEs Coach Alfredo Roberts compares having Eric Ebron and Pat Freiermuth to having Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener in Indy. #Steelers
Pat Freiermuth said he's excited to pick Eric Ebron's brain and learn from him -- added that's something that made him successful at Penn State, talking with older guys on the team and learning from them.
Had enough of watching Ebron avoid blocking last season. TE is a member of OL who just happens to catch AND block.
Creed was on the board, Oline is desperately needed but Ebron has bricks for hands so okay
What I will say: Steelers desperately needed a tight end behind Ebron. McDonald retired and Gentry was nowhere near ready to step into that role. Also serves as TE1 moving to the future.
I think we’ll see a lot of 2TE sets from Matt Canada in 2021
He catches everything in sight, doesn't drop it like Ebron lol. Makes tough catches in traffic, need a 3rd down conversion he's your guy. Blocking needs work for sure, like just about all college TEs now, or at least the receiving type TEs. Trust me you'll love him
I like the Friermuth pick. They have no TE's after Ebron. I would have rather had Creed Humphrey, but Friermuth is the 2nd best TE in the draft and an area of need. #Steelers #NFLDraft2021
Your forgot to mention fumbles the ball and commits lazy penalties, you don't win close games with ebron
I would say Friermuth (just seeing clips) has the blocking and pass-catch abilities as Heath. Ebron is great target because of height, but couldn’t block the Flyers from winning the Stanley Cup.
Replacing Ebron and his butter fingers 😂😂
Look for Adrian Ealy, Spencer brown, or jalen mayfield at tackle depth and Quinn, Trey hill or drake Jackson at center depth. Tons of players available. TE was easily biggest need. Need edge blocking where Ebron and Vance got destroyed this last season.
It’s going to be hard now for teams to scheme defensively for the Steelers with Ebron and Frieurmuth out there. If he can block as good as advertised that is
Oh yeah no chance he would’ve stuck around but especially after resigning Ebron a 2nd rd TE doesn’t really make sense, like I said before I trust the Steelers but I’m definitely confused by how they’re going about this
Pat and Ebron going to be a good duo. But we need to prioritize Ben now. Get a center so he has time to throw the ball, and holes can be created for Harris
Really one center off of we can find a good center we’re ok but with no tight end behind Ebron who I’ll be surprise stays as healthy as he did last season but I know nothing
QB play definitely has something to do with it. It’s not like he was playing with guys who were lighting it up at Penn State. I get why they took him. Gotta have a TE who can actually block on the goal line. Something Ebron refused to do.
He can block his ass off! Catch ! Big body and physical ! Love it ! McDonald left so we have no blocking TE. Ebron drop too many passes good pick
Thats facts losing Mcdonald meant we had to address the blocking at tight end. Ebron aint gonna do it.. https://t.co/uh5WrNuQ1e
Ebron would rather drop balls than run block. TE is a member of OL who just happens to move around and catch balls.
