Questions orient the PLC toward a goal: • a “how do we” question focuses the PLC on learning from one another • a “how will we” question focuses the PLC on building something together • a “how can I” question enlists the PLC’s expertise #HackLearning A2

A culture of asking questions begins with lots of opportunities for curiosity. Try new things. Look at familiar things in new ways. Talk about what matters. Read. Explore. Notice. #HackLearning A3 https://t.co/SMTnFNAQlW

Leading a conversation with a question shows interest in what the other person thinks. It allows the other person to offer their thoughts first. But, as always, context & tone is everything! (eg: Why did you DO that?!?) #Hacklearning

A3: Consider using protocols where people are having conversations by writing to each other instead of speaking. Questions are stronger & ppl are more willing to question/push each other’s thinking. Of course, these activities can be the prep for rich conversation. #HackLearning

A3: I usually end PDs with ppl sharing their takeaways or next steps. The other day, I had people share what they are leaving wondering about about or what ?s they have. More & different people shared (yes!) & it really pushed the whole group to reflect more. #HackLearning

@carla_meyrink A3) I think giving specific verbal feedback when we hear students and teachers ask strong follow up questions to the original question posed. Also that answering a question with a question that drives the talk deeper is a good thing. #HackLearning

A3: one way is to start assessing it. I am imagining a test where students write thoughtful questions that demonstrate the degree to which they have wrestled with the content. If I know X, what then does that say about y? #HackLearning

@mexusmx Oh, that’s so cool. Imagine asking students to come up with 20 Qs about a topic they’ve been studying, and then categorizing the Qs using Bloom’s. It’d be a great way for the students to learn to ask different kinds of Qs and for the teacher to self-assess the unit. #HackLearning
