Heath Hembree induces a huge double play. The automatic runner on second base does not score.
Mets have a chance to walk it off in the 10th.
Mets 4, Cardinals 4, mid-10.
HEATH HEMBREE COMES UP BIG IN THE 10TH!
Thought the Mets might push Edwin Díaz a little more once it got down to crunch time this season, but, well, it's crunch time now and the Mets aren't pushing him.
Rather than Díaz, it'll be Heath Hembree for the 10th.
Mets 4, Cardinals 4 after nine.
[announcer voice] for this evening’s performance, heath hembree will be playing the role of aaron heilman
Marcus Stroman threw 89 pitches. Aaron Loup threw seven. even Hembree only threw 13. where’s the gosh darn foresight..
Somebody get Heath Hembree a Busch Light stat
The Hembree Hammer needs to be our closer whenever the trumpets aren't playing for Diaz
Hembree throws just 7 pitches and gives you a master class in getting out of the ghost runner inning without giving up a run, so you take him out and pit in some dude no one has ever heard of. 16 more games of Luis after tonight Mets fans, only 16 more. #mets #lgm #lfgm
I’m so excited for Luis Rojas explaining why he took Aaron Loup out after 7 pitches and why he pitched Jake Reed in the 11th inning instead of Hembree for another inning or Trevor Williams. Should be rich @StevenACohen2
Did anybody “Heath Hembree saves the season” on their BINGO card? #LFGM
Rojas doesn't do a lot right but that was absolutely the move to walk Arenado and look for the double play with Molina (doesn't matter if Hembree hadn't induced one all season). Credit there, and it actually worked... #LGM
hembree pulled after 7 pitches, loup after 7 pitches, stroman after 89 on a day castro and lugo not available???
Hembree and Reed as the first two relievers in extras? Luis Rojas loves living life dangerously.
Hembree > Harambe
Some canny shuffling by Rojas here puts the pitcher in the eighth spot and McCann, catching, in the nine spot. Remember that the tiebreaker rule allows a pitcher to be skipped, so it’ll be Pillar and not Hembree who starts the bottom of the inning on second.
Hope Loup has a cold one for Baez and Hembree and one more for whoever wins this.
There’s so many things wrong with the way this was handled. Stroman needs to go past 89 pitches if Lugo is unavailable. Loup needs a second inning after 7 pitches if Lugo is unavailable. Hembree needs the 11th if Lugo is unavailable. These are easy calls to make. #LGM
Is Luis Rojas trying to lose? he can’t be serious in extra innings trying to get within 2.5 of the wildcard he goes to Hembree and Reed #mets #LGM
The Mets need to use Hembree more
Or Loup pitches 2 innings or Hembree pitches the 11th? Why does he keep using a new reliever every inning?!? If a reliever gets outs and low pitch count then use him another inning. The more middle relievers you go to the odds increase someone will not have it that day.
Why couldn't Hembree pitch a 2nd inning? He had to be a better option than Reed who hasn't pitched in over a month.
Why didn’t Hembree pitch another inning? #LGM
It’s incredibly sad that Heath Hembree and Jake Reed are pitching in high leverage situations. Just goes to show how bad these bullpen guys are at doing their jobs (aside from Loup)
Safe to assume as Rojas goes to Hembree and Reed for then 10th and 11th
Brach was on the IL when Hembree was DFA'd, but ya Hembree is much better than Brach. I wish they could have found a way to keep him
Hembree has done a nice job since being taken off waivers.
