My 'issue' with Jason Lee's claims of bullying over his hair are this. You don't get a statement hairstyle in order to blend into the background. When I had a Mohican I wanted people to look at me (pathetic I know), if I didn't want to be noticed I'd have got a perm.

Uh oh Jason Lee is on now making a similar allegation because people used to think his hair looked like a pineapple. I'd suggest that people singing 'he's got a pineapple on his head' is not in the same league Luke Chadwick being called 'ugly' every week on HIGNFY.

Two decades on, Hancock's contrition is welcome and better late than never. Compare and contrast to 'anti racist' David Baddiel, who mocked and continually bullied black footballer Jason Lee as "pineapple head," and disturbingly has only ever doubled down on his "blacking up." https://t.co/4ZoArKs7VE https://t.co/1iNXR5tNLE

@Baddiel this hasn’t aged well has it David? You must be very embarrassed. With the abuse Jason Lee received week in week out from yourself and Frank Skinner an apology is very much needed. https://t.co/jRcWXrzAIt

Fair play to Luke Chadwick for speaking out. At the time he was the butt of all jokes; no one cared how it made him feel. The '90s (Baddiel and Skinner targeting Jason Lee) and early 2000s was a pretty toxic time for appearance-shaming and bullying packaged as popular TV comedy. https://t.co/jiokqGOmMJ

Hello Pete, if you're referring to me I'm a woman. If Jason Lee was mocked for being 'ugly', like Luke Chadwick was, I'd have his back. But for a man (of any ethnicity) to be affected by jokes about his statement hair is, in my non-racist opinion, a bit silly. As are you. https://t.co/XPRyree0pv

ICYMI: On #BBCBreakfast - @sallynugent spoke to @Luke_FFF about the impact of media comments about his looks. We then interviewed former sports quiz presenter Nick Hancock and @PFA Equalities Officer Jason Lee Watch it all here: https://t.co/cooyMqmk6L

If you’re wondering if David Baddiel is going to follow Nick Hancock’s lead with Luke Chadwick and apologise to Jason Lee ... I wouldn’t hold your breath https://t.co/XE1WrsHoIO

Was nice to see a proper apology from someone tbh. None of this “I’m sorry *if* you were offended, different era wasn’t it?” stuff. I’ve always wondered why Baddiel has never done the same re: Jason Lee.

81 followers this time, impressed. Hello Winston, for clarity, I was unaware that David Baddiel blacked up to abuse Jason Lee - clearly that's appalling - but Baddiel is a lout so it's not a surprise. I was referring purely to the pineapple hair comments. Delighted to explain. https://t.co/O8cVVEVnBS

Brilliant piece @sallynugent @producernick & brilliant interview afterwards Sally! I think there’ll be lots of people from not only the world of sport but outside of it too who’ll totally, totally relate to what @Luke_FFF & Jason Lee had to say ❤️ @BBCBreakfast #bbcbreakfast https://t.co/naU3Guj1dd

@GaryLineker @Luke_FFF There didn't feel like anyone had done anything wrong at the time, our society has come a long way in 10 years. Makes me feel bad about what Jason Lee went through with the fantasy football lads

I see Jason Lee is trending because he is still raging about the stick he got for his pineapple head. He didn’t have to have such an outlandish style. Btw , I was a doppelgänger for Billy Idol with my dyed blond , stick-up haircut. Couldn’t quite get the sneeer though. https://t.co/TZLaMfwgKt

@DTathletic @JackPittBrooke Skinner and Baddiel can do the same with regards Jason Lee. Particularly the blackin up "“It was, looking back, a form of bullying. I work in equalities now, and it can affect different people in different ways. I don't think people appreciate the possible harm it can cause"

@BeaumontDMD
@kingswell @BlueLewisham @AllenMavis2 @PhilTenny @TrippyPip People didn't take the piss out of Jason Lee because he was black. They took the piss because he had a ridiculous haircut. I think sometimes we are guilty of seeking prejudice when it doesn't exist.

@F365 Credit to Nick Hancock for this. Who knows, maybe some day David Baddiel will reflect on his racially-charged bullying of Jason Lee on Fantasy Football League and make a similar apology?

It’s good to see lots of positive #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek discussions, and thinking of @Luke_FFF following his amazing contributions. Sad to see people minimising the impact bullying by the media may have had on Jason Lee and his family though. https://t.co/qQ3Ftn5zzj

@topfotogmw
@thehotwombat @jameswatson5 @mrdanwalker @Luke_FFF @BBCBreakfast No, the whole piece included both, they literally interviewed Jason Lee alongside Nick Hancock and referred to Fantasy Football but didn’t mention Baddiel or Skinner. FF used to mock many people, but the Lee jokes went too far with the use of black face as well.

@jontranslates they were pretty cruel on that show but no one really saw an issue which was similar with Jason Lee and Fantasy Football. Different times I suppose but decent of him to apologise as you say

@TrippyPip @PhilipBligh Which has no correlation to responding to your previous tweet where you asserted that you thought Chadwicks abuse was worse, than the racist bullying Jason lee received. I was simply debating that fact.

@javelin_fangz
@TrippyPip You 🔔🔚..who are you to justify what abuse is to different ppl & how it affects them..Technically Jason Lee was racially abused for his natural hair and portrayed by someone on a 'comedy' show with a blackface..is this ok to you.?

Now we need Baddiel and Skinner to apologise to Jason Lee. Or would that bring too much attention to the fact that Baddiel wore blackface on television to mock Mr Lee? https://t.co/j9YtdE2nkx
