Remembering John Cazale, left, who was born on this day in 1935. The actor only appeared in five films, all nominated for Best Picture: The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon (pictured here), and The Deer Hunter.
John Cazale was born on this date in 1935.
So much respect for his performances. An inspiration. Gone far too soon.
Mr. Cazale has the incredible distinction of all 5 of his roles being in Best Picture nominees (Godfather I and II, Conversation, Deer Hunter, Dog Day Afternoon.)
The thing I loved about the casting of John Cazale was that he had a tremendous sadness about him. I don’t know where it came from; I don’t believe in invading the privacy of the actors I work with or getting into their heads. But my God, it’s there–every shot of him. ~Lumet
John Cazale only made five films - THE GODFATHER, THE GODFATHER II, THE CONVERSATION, DOG DAY AFTERNOON, and THE DEER HUNTER. All five were nominated for Best Picture; three won. Today, if cancer didn't suck, he'd be 84 https://t.co/fuln6THf9I
"I sometimes wonder if the inability to find oneself makes one seek oneself in other people, in characters." The utterly incomparable John Cazale, pictured here with Meryl Streep during the making of THE DEER HUNTER and in three of his greatest roles, was born today in 1935. ❤️ https://t.co/dGIoKREwch
10 yrs ago I directed a 40 minute HBO doc-- I KNEW IT WAS YOU: REDISCOVERING JOHN CAZALE. It's on Amazon & youtube. We spoke to Pacino, Streep, Coppola, Lumet, Hackman, DeNiro about this brilliant actor, whose life ended way too soon. Incredibly proud of this film. Check it out https://t.co/c1b7fOLwTB
Happy birthday to a fantastic actor, with arguably the greatest film career in history (though tragically short).
John Cazale was only in five movies. All five of them were nominated for Best Picture https://t.co/5fn54VjfUd
So Chris Cuomo was called Fredo on John Cazale's birthday?
Happy Heavenly Birthday to a man who made an indelible impact in five Best Picture nominees: The Godfather, The Godfather II, The Conversation, The Deer Hunter and Dog Day Afternoon. #TCMParty https://t.co/VjPDwaFWzY
Since everyone is talking about Fredo all of a sudden, it’s my opportunity to remind you that Fredo’s actor: John Cazale, was in a grand total of six movies, all six of which received a nomination for Best Picture at the Oscars, which is fucking nuts. https://t.co/fmTKUbMLnP
42 yaşında vefat eden John Cazale sadece 5 filmde oynadı, beşi de başyapıt!
“The Godfather” (1972)
“The Godfather: Part II” (1974)
“The Conversation” (1974)
“Dog Day Afternoon” (1975)
“The Deer Hunter” (1978)
Böyle bir istatistik James Dean’de bile yok. Adam harbiden efsane. https://t.co/UB9GeorK36
Not to change the subject, but the actor who played Fredo in The Godfather, John Cazale, lived w/ Meryl Streep, whom he’d met doing Shakespeare in the Park, and loved until his death at 42 from cancer, in 1978. (“I’ve met the greatest actress in the history of the world.”) #Fredo https://t.co/2VYuqtgwsp
OTD in 1935, John Cazale was born. From 1972-1978, he appeared in 5 films nominated for a Best Picture Oscar: The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon, and The Deer Hunter. One of his memorable roles was Fredo Corleone. https://t.co/FhRPEVui1B
People think #Fredo is trending because Chris Cuomo got mad bc some guy called him that.
But I think Fredo is trending because today is the late John Cazale's birthday and he just want to wave at us from beyond.
Thanks for the great performance and all the fun memes, John!
Happy Birthday John Cazale!
Recording this episode of @WrongReel w/@colebrax was truly special. Anyone who respects film acting will always wonder what the body of work would’ve been like had he lived. Wyoming.
Born on this date: Brilliant stage and film actor who appeared in five of the best films of the 1970's, John Cazale (August 12, 1935 - March 12, 1978).

One of the greatest actors of our lifetime. No fear in displaying our humanity. Whether is was fear, weakness, strength, the desire to fit in, John Cazale was the absolute best. https://t.co/pwsJGAFL2O
Wait a second. So, this butthead called Chris Cuomo ‘Fredo’ on John Cazale’s actual birthday? Now I’m starting to think that it was a touching tribute to compare CC to a man that could theatrically do no wrong. https://t.co/Y4RV843JOR
@RealSaavedra@Wikipedia Frederico "Fredo" Corleone is a fictional character in Mario Puzo's novel The Godfather. Fredo is portrayed by American actor John Cazale in the Francis Ford Coppola film adaptation and in the sequel, The Godfather Part II. He is the second son of the mafia don Vito Corleone.
@washingtonpost i would never call Cuomo "Fredo". Fredo was played by the great actor John Cazale, a man who had more talent in his pinky than Cuomo has in his entire body. to compare the two is like comparing a fake journalist such as Cuomo to Edward R Murrow. good night & good luck, Fredo.
