Couple months ago I called around 20 people for a column on John Sherman. Most called back and it looks like almost all who didn’t are part of his group.
John has good friends. They either wanted to talk about him or keep his secret.
Welcome John Sherman to the Royals
As the Kansas City Royals officially announced the sale of the team to local businessman John Sherman, we learned that a very well-known #Chiefs fan is part of the ownership group (via @Arrowheadphones
Royals owner John Sherman did rattle off these names as part of what has him optimistic: Brady Singer, Jackson Kowar, Daniel Lynch, Kris Bubic.
"Another thing I learned in Cleveland," Sherman said, "when you have a whole bunch of good pitching, get some more."
The Dunn Family & JE Dunn are honored to be involved with John Sherman in the purchase of the Kansas City @Royals
! The game of baseball & passionate commitment to #KC are rooted in the 95-year history of JE Dunn. We’re proud to be part of the #Royals family! https://t.co/1DRZ3S3iVq
The #Royals sale to John Sherman and his group is now official. Nice that the first stated goal is to compete for a championship. Now comes the work. https://t.co/DBpNG1rCql
John Sherman is the new #1 in Kansas City.
John Sherman made a good first impression at his introductory press conference, including seating Bob Kendrick between his own wife and Ewing Kauffman’s daughter.
More coming soon in a column, including some ways he’s already changing the Royals.
Me waiting for the @Royals
to announce John Sherman Mustache Giveaway Night...
UPDATED with new Royals owner John Sherman's first comments today about potential for a downtown ballpark: East Village Developer Ready to Play Ball on Potential Downtown Stadium https://t.co/WcpcACZMaS
From our separate writers’ chat with new owner John Sherman: National reports that he is giving/has given Dayton Moore an extension are totally false (but he seems a big fan of Dayton), and Sherman told me he will take some time before deciding if a team president is necessary.
Words are nice; actions matter more. Money talks; bulls**t walks. If you want to be a Debbie Downer about today's press conference, that's your angle.
Because everything John Sherman said was basically pitch-perfect. If his actions match his words, he should be a terrific owner.
Being personable doesn't win pennants, but John Sherman seems like more of a people person than his predecessor. Has been in KC for 40 years, loves baseball, wants to build a winner here. On a budget, still, perhaps, but he said some good things today.
John Sherman: "There’s just more economic development opportunity if it’s in denser areas where you can have ancillary real estate." https://t.co/20MMPfG2XR
A downtown stadium isn't about parking, or land, or highways, or economic development, or cool.
PAYING FOR IT is the only thing that matters. I did not hear John Sherman offer to pick up the check.
Paying for a new Chiefs stadium is part of the equation too. https://t.co/EdR6EPA6SA
When I asked John Sherman about rumors GM Dayton Moore had been given a contract extension, he said that's not the case. Moore has an existing contract that remains in place, though Sherman spoke very highly of Moore and his baseball operations staff.
The Royals are introducing new owner John Sherman and the rest of the ownership group. Check it out on Facebook live: https://t.co/NTd59e0StX
John Sherman and Co-Investors finalized the purchase of the Royals today. Among the group... Eric Stonesteet! #Roylas #KCRoyals
GM Dayton Moore says local ownership, from John Sherman on down among the co-investors, is "a competitive advantage" for the #Royals.
John Sherman, new owner of Royals (w/investment group), so far has talked about admiring Mr. Kauffman’s philosophy of giving back to the community and making sure we celebrate 100 yr anniversary of Negro Leagues Baseball & KC Monarchs.
I'm not overly excited about Matheny managing the Royals, but I'm pretty excited about John Sherman owning the Royals. He's saying all the right things today.
I have very high hopes for John Sherman. Grand slam of a press conference. Excellent to hear he wants to have a bigger presence in KC than previous ownership. I think he'll be excellent for both this city and this team.
