Wtf was Leury stealing for just so stupid
Between Liam Hendriks being forced into a role as the potential go-ahead run, Leury Garcia being sent to steal and getting caught, and Billy Hamilton hitting in that key spot ... yeah, another tough sequence for Tony La Russa.
If you’re keeping tabs at home:
(1) La Russa does a double switch that puts Hendriks as the runner at 2b
(2) He doesn’t pinch hit for Billy Hamilton with a power guy like Collins on the bench. With 1 out and runners and 1st and 3rd.
(3) he has Leury steak and kill momentum. https://t.co/DhvXJW0jVY https://t.co/vAFe0SYwQ2
Why is Leury stealing there?
That Leury García caught stealing wrecks the White Sox top of the 10th, stranding the go-ahead run at third and taking Billy Hamilton out of a situation he could have sacrificed a run in
SINCE THE WORLD MUST KNOW HOW I FEEL...
La Russa not knowing the rule about the runner doesn't bother me. I didn't know it. Nobody else in the dugout knew it. What bothered me was the Leury Garcia steal attempt. That made no damn sense.
Tony La Russa in the press conference just admitted
(1) He had Leury García steal (said he’d do it again)
(2) He didn’t know Abreu could run instead of Hendriks. Said he was not aware of the rule.
Watching Leury Garcia every day is going to increase my blood pressure.
La Russa on Leury Garcia caught stealing at second with Hendriks at third and Billy Hamilton at bat.
"He can run. They were playing the infield in. We wanted to be aggressive. They threw him out. We were trying to be aggressive all day long."
Tony La Russa said the White Sox wanted to be "aggressive" with stealing Leury Garcia, even as the trail runner in a scoreless game. I asked if he regretted the decision.
1. Why did Leury try to steal second?
2. Still trying to figure out why Hendriks was running.
Hendriks being the runner never became a factor in this loss so I’m not sure why that aspect is supposed to have me enraged. If we already know he thought he had to use Hendriks there it explains WHY he is in. That’s not what bit them. But sending Leury was dumb AF. https://t.co/8wj29qv15f
Quit blaming #LaRussa for not knowing the rules. The offense only had 2 hits today. Blame him for constantly batting Billy Hamilton and Leury Garcia when there are better hitters on the bench. #WhiteSox
Don't let this oversight of a nuanced MLB rule detract from the abhorrent decision to have Leury attempt steal with a pitcher - who you don't want injured on a play-at-home attempt - on 3B. Why was that steal even necessary with a sub-par batter at the plate?!? 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Games in April count the same as September. So when Nick Williams is taking at bats or Leury or Hamilton are batting for themselves in key situations it matters.
TLR being a repeat offender of letting Leury and Hamilton hit in key points is just indefensible at this point
well, actually, once he made leury run into the second out, billy hamilton needed to do more than just make contact.
Lets see he's admitted to not knowing the challenge rule, admitted to fucking up leaving Foster to die, leaving Giolito to die, in another one "we were looking for a single", today sending Leury and not understanding the rules letting hendricks run. Adding up
leury garcia has stolen 58 bases in 499 games why are you running into an out is another question they should ask themselves
I’d consider putting Grandal second since he seems to walk all the time to have ducks on the pond to Yoan and Jose. Grandal walking all day in front of Leury-Billy-pitcher does nothing.
Did TLR send Leury? I haven't seen that. If so, that's dumb both situationally and because it's Leury. Can't be trusted to get a good jump.
Yeah, it was ugly. Leury's used to the infield I guess, so he tried to barehanded the ball for no reason. Hendriks came in to save it, and he did. Then Leury had what looked like the worst steal attempt at the worst time it appeared. Bad game. 3 against KC with Rodon on Friday.
FIRE TLR AND LEURY GARCIA INTO THE ☀️
He’s gonna fall on that sword all day long. I think it was Leury
The only reason to send Leury there is to invite some sort of play between 3rd and home. There would be no need to protect against a DP with Billy up. It's bad in a few different ways.
I get that, but the manager's job is to put them in the best position to score runs and win games and by continually letting Leury Garcia and Billy Hamilton swing bats in crucial situations on top of all the other bonehead moves and not knowing rules in the 10th, it's frustrating
