The Jets' plan, recapped:
1. Let Mike Maccagnan run a free agency period in which they spent $191.2M on Le'Veon Bell, C.J. Mosley, Jamison Crowder and Henry Anderson.
2. Let Maccaggnan run a draft in which they had the 3rd pick.
3. Fire Maccaggnan three weeks after the draft.
Let the current state of the #Jets sink in:
1) Allowed Maccagnan to pick the head coach
2) Allowed Maccagnan to spend all their money in free agency
3) Allowed Maccagnan to run their draft
Now they’ve … fired Maccagnan
That’s incompetence like I’ve never seen before
Jets have fired GM Mike Maccagnan and VP of Player Personnel Brian Heimerdinger, league sources told @jeffdarlington and me. Maccagnan had two years left on his contract.
Jets are in position to have strong season thanks to Maccagnan and Heimerdinger.
1) Had Maccagnan pick a coach
2) Had Maccagnan spend a boatload of money in free agency.
3) Had Maccagnan run the draft (with a top-3 pick) and sign undrafted FAs
4) Fired Maccagnan
Just when we thought the #Giants took over as the circus in New York....
One disagreement between Adam Gase and Mike Maccagnan/Christopher Johnson...
Gase absolutely did not want to sign Le’Veon Bell, per sources. In fact, he made it clear that he didn’t want to spend a lot of money on any running back.
Statement from Jets Chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson on Mike Maccagnan.
Breaking: The Jets have fired GM Mike Maccagnan and named head coach Adam Gase as acting GM. The team also fired VP of player personnel Brian Heimerdinger, sources tell @AdamSchefter
Since John Schneider became Seahawks GM in 2010 he has never been named the NFL's Executive of the Year. Of the nine who have been in that time, six have now been fired, including Mike Maccagnan today by the Jets. Of the other three, one is the unfireable Jerry Jones.
From our breaking news segment: A look at why the #Jets moved on from GM Mike Maccagnan, along with a few candidates to watch -- Joe Douglas and Champ Kelly.
Never happened the way you're reporting it immediately after your GUY #GM Maccagnan was fired, who is also your source for this BS info.
Guy gets fired and 2 minutes later you know the exact disagreement 😂 you're a MF'ing joke hopefully most Jets fans understand that
Dig up the bearded lady, cotton candy and clown cars...
The Jets have morphed back into a circus... and surpassed the Knicks & Giants as the biggest joke in town.
Details on what really went down that led to Mike Maccagnan’s firing: https://t.co/NA6PkHDzD3
Christopher Johnson just finished a call with beat writers. He insisted this wasn't a power struggle, and that his decision to fire Maccagnan had nothing to do with Gase. But he also said the synergy b/w AG and MM "was not everything I was hoping for." #Jets
The timing to fire Maccagnan after a productive offseason is brutal. But the Jets were the only team in NFL not to win at least 6 games in any of the last 3 years and talent level over that span was rough.
The #Jets are a directionless franchise marred in ineptitude
The decision *to* fire Mike Maccagnan doesn’t indicate that
*When* makes it clear those up top are committing organizational malpractice
The circus is back
Wait, no. Just the #SameOldJets https://t.co/gbqu7JJ9SZ
It’s funny how people think Maccagnan did a good job.
It’s just the timing and optics make it look bad. This isn’t the same old Jets move some day it is.
[Have the drugs worn off]
GM Mike Maccagnan fired
Adam 👀 Gase is now interim GM of the New York Jets
A taste of Mike Maccagnan's incompetence. Here is every team's inside LB cap hit in 2019 per @spotrac
. Jets>3x the league average. Also went from third-lowest RB spending in 2018 to fourth-highest in 2019. Can hear @SharpFootball
Jets CEO Christopher Johnson tells reporters: 'This job is a lot more than a talent evaluation thing.' Says he has great respect for Mike Maccagnan but adds
a deep dive this offseason allowed him to understand how the organization was lacking in certain ways.
Sources: Jets HC Adam Gase didn’t want to sign Le’Veon Bell... and made it clear he didn’t want to spend big money on any running back.
The Jets allowed Mike Maccagnan to make a last-ditch effort to save his job during free agency and the draft, but after firing him, New York is left looking stupid again https://t.co/WumUpa3R2V
Johnson said he made decision "only through diving deep into the organization. It was going through this particular offseason deeply that I understood how this organization was lacking in certain ways." OK, then why the effusive praise of Maccagnan in late March? #Jets
I'm just not sure I get the idea that Christopher Johnson only knew in the past few months that Maccagnan wasn't the right guy.
When the heat was on late last season & it was clear the end was near for Todd Bowles - wouldn't you take a "deep dive" then on the GM, too? #Jets
I’m officially angry.
Mike Maccagnan should’ve been fired. But allowing Adam Gase, a below average HC & a failed player personnel guy to “help” choose the next GM, whilst giving him partial control over the 53 is ridiculous.
He is in charge now. New GM is a puppet #Jets @nyjets
“Synergy” between Maccagnan and Gase appears to literally be the definition of the firing having something to do with Gase. https://t.co/7qZ61ZbaDL
“(Gase) saw that there is an owner that he could sway. He saw that there was a general manager who was not on the firmest of footing, who did not have a real tough guy personality."
reacts to the #Jets firing of Mike Maccagnan.
Christopher Johnson said as he spent more time with Maccagnan and got more involved in meetings, he realized he wanted someone else. .... He's been the GM for four years.
Jets CEO Christopher Johnson is on a conference call explaining his decision to fire GM Mike Maccagnan. Has mentioned twice: "This job is a lot more than a talent evaluation thing."
Christopher Johnson says this "had nothing to do with Adam" when asked if the head coach won a power struggle with Maccagnan. #Jets
Christopher Johnson on firing Mike Maccagnan: "This was a learning process for me, too. I’m going to get some things right and I’m going to get some things wrong, but I think I’m getting this right."
Johnson said the decision "evolved and it took a while. Maybe I was slow at that decision, but I finally came to it in the last few days."
The question - which remains largely unanswered - is what 'evolved" since March when Johnson praised Maccagnan's work? #Jets
Edge rusher one of the two, three most important positions in today's NFL. Not finding one -- and barely even attempting to find one -- was one of Mike Maccagnan's biggest downfalls. That 2016 Draft (ILB Darron Lee & QB Christian Hackenberg in Rounds 1-2) also big whiff. #Jets
May 15, 2019- Francesa on NY Jets firing Maccagnan
Christopher Johnson says the synergy between Maccagnan and Gase was "not everything I was hoping for." He doesn't want to get into specifics on why the team has moved on from Maccagnan. #Jets
Man drafted a franchise QB and didn't invest dick into the OL, but spent on a flashy RB. You don't have anymore time to waste with Darnold on his rookie deal. Maccagnan is an idiot and this summer was just further proof.
Do we 100% know for sure Maccagnan ran the draft?... he made the phone calls but maybe Gase made the picks
¿Y luego? 🤷♂️🤷♂️
tomaron la decisión de despedir al gerente general Mike Maccagnan y dejar en su cargo al head coach Adam Gase. #NFL https://t.co/XueJBF0ShA
Christopher Johnson conf call:
*Needed this offseason to evaluate Maccagnan. Wants “a great strategic thinker” as GM.
*Gase & GM report to CJ.
*#Jets did “great job” this offseason.
*No regrets over FA $$ or draft picks: “I’m totally good with that. I approved them all.” #nyjets
Mike Maccagnan lost a staring contest with Ryan Fitzpatrick and was ushered out by a coach he helped hire in 3 months
resumo lo más importante;
I’m canceling my season tickets and am ending the fandom with me because I refuse to raise my child to root for an organization like this- one that makes decisions like not hiring Rhule and firing Maccagnan and Heimerdinger. It ends today. Congratulations. 🍾
Christopher Johnson explained why he fired Mike Maccagnan and what it means for both Adam Gase and the #Jets moving forward. https://t.co/q0Ib4kpYp8
