This will be the first time Marucs Mariota has a legit backup that can push him for the starting spot. Not saying Ryan Tannehill will beat him out, but we get to see whether or not Mariota can get fresher under pressure.
That deep accuracy for Mariota is stupidly high. He had 16 accurate deep throws and six of them were dropped. Three of those drops were deeper than 40 yards downfield. Four were deeper than 30 yards downfield. That's massive for QB's perception.
The Titans have two market inefficiency QBs. Both Mariota and Tannehill are far better than people realize but both have played in dysfunctional offenses through their whole careers. Can Titans build a real O this year? We'll see.
As time in Miami comes to a close, Titans make good sense for Tannehill in 2019 for several reasons: 1. System fits his skill set. 2. 1-year deal that lets him assess landscape next free agency period. 3. Chance for Tennessee to fully evaluate him during Mariota option year.
Tannehill gets 1 year $7M fully guaranteed in TEN. Deal goes to $12M+ with playtime, other incentives. Miami dealt him and a 2019 6th rnd pick for a 7th in 2019 and a 4th in 2020. Insurance for off-injured Mariota, with upside.
#Titans offseason wish-list:
They've now upgraded significantly at each position without surrendering significant draft capital. Impressive offseason rolls on for Jon Robinson. https://t.co/lcwF9JHvQR
@BuckReising Only if Mariota has a year similar to this previous year, whether performance, or injury. We still don't know if he's going to fully recover from his neck/spine, nerve injury. So much is up in the air, but the tools and resources are there for him to succeed this year.
@real_goody@Titan_Sized Yea, I mean the question is do you think Tannehill is a better scheme fit than Gabbert and would you pay 500k to put yourself in a better position to win games if Mariota gets hurt? I say it’s well worth it
@dmh961@Tennessean I think he’s doing that in a way that doesn’t leave any room for jealousy or toxicity between the two. I think he brought tannehill here to give Mariota some competition, but he doesn’t want them to be pitted against each other. Everybody in that locker room has to work together
The @Titans get a safety valve in case of a Marcus Mariota injury & it helps greatly that Miami ate 5 out of the 7 Million he‘ll make in the form of a signing bonus. I don’t think the @MiamiDolphins could have gotten a fourth rounder otherwise. https://t.co/gzGwzXdtPN
@asportsjunky Tannehill is better than Gabbert. Seems like an odd pickup if they believe Mariota is the answer. Maybe this will push him to be better. I'm just not seeing the development that I felt I would out of Marcus.
@Chip_Mariota@HixxBilly@dannykanell I think you're forgetting about all the non-revenue sport athletes who get full rides, and lower divisions. There's so much focus on paying players their worth, when in reality you're talking about less than 1% or less of the total NCAA athlete pool who are worth more.
They didn't bring in Ryan Tannehill just to back up Marcus Mariota, there will be a competition. They made a great move in sticking it to the Dolphins and their fans, the front office of Miami that is, you knew you were trading Tannehill and you let Bridgewater not sign?
@Cianaf now show me where has mariota threw over 20 tds and less ints 2 seasons he thew over 4,000 yards both qbs have been hurt and ryan was playing dam good before he got hurt he had 19 tds and 7 ints wit a horrible ol again ,his whole career he has had no true line
I have a feeling we’re going to see Tannehill as much if not more than Mariota this year.. Marc will play 4 regular season games. Get hurt in the 5th. Be healthy enough to go when playoffs come around and we’ll still see Tannehill
@DougDCBTito4lif@TheRealClassic@Phenominal90210@AAV487 Im hoping that mariota stays healthy and that isnt a option. The only way I see that this could happen is that his nerve injury from last year is more serious than we were told.
If both are healthy, I take mariota everytime.
#Dolphins the Dolphins traded Ryan Tannehill to the Titans, so what's going on with Marcus Mariota? I guess we'll see what happens, it's always a difficult time when you're starting quarterback in a team trades for a QB or drafts one. Hmm

@menezes08@spencer_711@JMartZone@ryenarussillo The titans felt like they would have been in the playoffs last year if Mariota hadn't been hurt most of the season. Tannehill is a 1 yr backup plan. They traded a 4th to ensure a playoff birth
