I'll admit that I loved the way Matt Cooke made people go nuts. Loved it. But after a while, all the suspensions and penalties hurt the team and the damage of what he was doing to players was too much to ignore. Idk where that point is for the Caps and Wilson
When the Pens has Matt Cooke they finally told him enough was enough clean up your game or your not gonna play here. He did and it probably cost him years on his career.
Conversely the Caps have yet to do anything but make excuses for Wilson’s behavior.
The thing is, I can relate to these people. In a different sort of way. The defending wasn’t nearly as strong but... years ago I was a bit of a Matt Cooke apologist when he played for the Wild. After a year I had to change my way of viewing players on my favorite team.
It's crazy that this exact time a decade ago Matt Cooke was suspended for 14 games for dangerous hits. And the league vowed they're were serious about change & would clean up guys like Cooke. Yet 10 years later Cooke is STILL here, on the Caps as Tom Wilson. Nothing's changed.

is 250% right. No place in the league for this kind of garbage. It took the @NHL
YEARS to finally hit Matt Cooke with the banhammer, conveniently after he left PIT. Now you have Wilson doing arguably worse in different ways in WSH. See the trend?
As a pens fan, I couldn't stand the way Matt Cooke played the game. There are just some people not fit for a game that requires respect for the well being of other players.
I believe a majority of today’s fan base would support permanent league expulsion for repeat offenders like Wilson, and Torres before him. And you could’ve made a case to expel Matt Cooke during his worst years, before he settled down from vicious and predatory to merely dirty.
This guy is as big of a clown as Matt Cooke was, he should be done for the year minimum for that gross display last night. I hope he gets his one day.
Was checking the @hockey_ref
pages for Raffi Torres and Matt Cooke, and the biggest upset is that Torres registered more career regular-season games played (635) than PIM (497).

Exactly, ‘tough hockey’ doesn’t mean being a thug, it means what it says. Wilson is simply Matt Cooke 2.0 and after all the past suspensions needs a firm ‘you’re done for the year, playoffs included’
they never did anything about matt cooke crippling guys for years....i like the hope in the comments though.
Raffi Torres. Matt Cooke. Chris Simon. The NHL got rid of them far too late. They’ve made the same mistake with Wilson.
The death of the enforcer has only emboldened guys like Matt Cooke
@JulieSelf @NHL @NHL
PlayerSafety I will forever hate Matt Cooke for what he did to Savard, and even at this moment, Wilson is looking worse imo. They need to do something before someone’s career or life is ended. This was just crazy
Unfortunately, the way the league has handled him thus far, it’s going to take a player being paralyzed or worse before the @NHL
PlayerSafety actually does anything significant to stop Tom Wilson. Remember Matt Cooke? Wilson is just as bad or worse.
Matt Cooke, Tom Wilson - just idiots. Roles need be played but don’t fuk with the stars. Bring back the boys that protected their own. #enforcers
Matt Cooke: no thank you ever again. He cleaned up his act but it was painful to watch the violence.
The league came down on on Matt Cooke with a sledgehammer and deservedly so. Rafi Torres faced discipline too. Wilson is surpassing their goonery and the discipline is fading away. Seems to me George Parros is the real problem
#BanTomWilson forever. Matt Cooke all over again at this point
Imagine being this Fucking stupid
Matt Cooke will never leave the NHL, it just changes the name https://t.co/UBYfT5mIjv
I didn’t even think of that. I’m with you then. I’d rather listen to islander fans, than have the guy who makes Matt Cooke look clean win.
@gregsarro @dantelives13 @BradyTrett @FriedgeHNIC
Pens fan here. I was one deliberate looking incident away from demanding we drop Matt Cooke with picket signs. Fortunately, he played a pretty clean game, minus that one hit, during his Pittsburgh tenure.
If they didn't do it for Matt Cooke, they won't do it for anyone.
Yeah, I'll never understand that. It's like defending Matt Cooke by saying he won a cup, as if it makes him any less of a scumbag
