That was vile from @KwasiKwarteng who actually just said "for too long in this country we've indulged in a fight over redistribution" Indulged? Dealing with inequality is somehow over-generous? Does he think people choose to be poor & face disadvantage? Disgusting #MiniBudget

From next April the 45% top rate of tax (applies to those earning £150,000) will be scrapped. So the top rate will be the 40% higher rate threshold. This means mega earners, pay the same rate as those on £50,000. #MiniBudget

That really was quite a staggering statement from a Conservative party government Huge new borrowing at the same time as cutting taxes. It's all aimed at growing the economy. I really hope it works. I really worry what happens if it doesn't. #MiniBudget

Let's call out trickle down economics for what it is: the Conservatives doling out hand outs to the super rich, while ordinary people struggle. It didn't work in the past, it won’t work now. #minibudget @Ed_Miliband's photo on #MiniBudget

This #MiniBudget embeds unfairness across the UK. The UK Government should be offering meaningful support to those who need it the most. Instead, they’re giving tax cuts to the rich, bonuses to bankers and protecting the eye-watering profits of energy companies.

The tax cut for the wealthiest costs £2.3bn this year. That’s more than the entire Levelling Up Fund given out so far. It totally sums up this government. More money for millionaires than for the North. #MiniBudget

Govt attacking people on benefits at time of acute poverty & foodbanks, legislating against working people who stick up for themselves thro a union, whilst green-lighting grotesque banker bonuses & corporation tax increase scrapped This #MiniBudget is nasty, cruel & regressive

The poorest have always been concerned that the richest were paying too much tax & not receiving bigger bonuses, whilst on the way to the food bank #MiniBudget

🚨 NEW from JRF: This is a #MiniBudget that has wilfully ignored families struggling through a cost of living emergency and instead targeted its action at the richest. It leaves those on the lowest incomes out in the cold with no extra help to get them through the winter. 🧵

Kwasi Kwarteng was the "Business Secretary who took the UK into recession" - Chris Bryant. @RhonddaBryant criticises the #MiniBudget, stating that people from his constituency think the Chancellor is "a disgrace". Read more here: https://t.co/u3V1Yrs0k2 @NewStatesman's photo on #MiniBudget

This #MiniBudget is a massive transfer of money from working families to the richest. But two-thirds of the highest earners who’ve just had their taxes cut live in London and the South East. So it’s also a massive transfer of wealth from the North and Midlands to the capital

Our own @Miatsf wiping the floor with Mark Littlewood. "It's just not true, Even on your metrics, the measures they are pushing forward will not deliver the return they want. What they will do is increase inequality and absolutely decimate our public services." ~AA #MiniBudget @BestForBritain's photo on #MiniBudget

The fact the Office for Budget Responsibility was sidelined is no coincidence. The OBR was created explicity to constrain Chancellors from spending money they would never have, based on unrealistic forecasts of future growth. This is EXACTLY what happened today. ~AA #MiniBudget

This from @ZackPolanski is as clear and forthright as you’ll get from a politician about today’s shambles of a #MiniBudget. He’s a genuine communicator and seemingly brilliantly principled guy - we need to hear more from him. https://t.co/Ty0Eei1ZNN

Today’s measures mean that the richest tenth of households, who were set to lose around £3,500 a year (3%) on average by 2025-26 under Johnson and Sunak’s plans, will now gain around £700 a year (1%) on average. #minibudget @TheIFS's photo on #MiniBudget

The vast majority of income tax payers will now be paying more tax as a result of the measures since 2021-22. However, cutting the additional rate means those with incomes over £155k will now pay less tax overall. @TomWatersEcon #MiniBudget @TheIFS's photo on #MiniBudget
