@BillieJeanKing @andy_murray A male leadership voice that stands out and is outstanding during a challenging time for gender issues. Andy was able to reach #1 during the Federer Nadal Djokovic era making it the era of the big 4. My family is sending Andy all the love and support from Los Angeles. @JudyMurray

Difficult to watch Andy Murray's press conference. To have been world number one in an era with Federer, Nadal and Djokovic is extraordinary and best wishes for whatever he does next.

I’ll always remember Andy Murray as the man who challenged and beat Djokovic, Nadal and Federer with a brilliant balance of offense and defense, brute force and variety, and indomitable desire to track down every ball.

Hope this Scottish champs body enables him to get to Wimbledon 🙏🏻 a hero in a time where Nadal Djokovic and Fed Express dominated he was right there 🎾☝🏼💪🏼

Andy Murray imo is not just the best ever tennis player we've ever had, he's our greatest sportsman, he won grand slams and got to finals in the same era as Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, he had talent, courage, endeavour, a fantastic back hand, his humility and decency were class.

Just to put Andy Murray's achievements into perspective, he was number one in the world for forty two weeks in the same company as, Nadal, Djokovic, and Federer.

The pity with Andy Murray’s impending retirement is that it comes at a time when Federer, Djokovic and Nadal are on the slide. A fit Murray would probably have added a few more grand slams to the three he already has. Still, a fantastic career and now time to look after himself

Andy Murray is quite clearly Scotland's greatest ever sportsperson...and has a pretty good claims to be the UK's greatest. To win 3 slams, 2 olympic golds and reach no. 1 in the world in the era of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic is staggering. Sincerely hope he makes it to Wimbledon
11 Jan, 09:23 AM UTC
It’s fine to say Andy Murray is without doubt the greatest British sportsman of our lifetime. Federer, Djokovic and Nadal and he still reached the top of his sport. And he seems like a decent chap.

@Coral Top of the pile for me. On the scene at a time when tennis had the best players ever in Djokovic, Nadal and Federer. Murray wasn’t as naturally talented as these guys but he worked his arse off to be as good as them.

45 Career Singles Titles 2 Career Doubles Titles 8-time Grand Slam Runner-Up 78% career game winning record. Andy Murray achieved all of that in the same era as Federer, Nadal and Djokovic.

Andy Murray laa, bit of a moaner, but fuck me 3 Grand Slams while Federer Nadal and Djokovic were around, some going that laa, 👏👏👏

Such a sad way to see Andy Murray bow out. A class act both on and off the courts. Undoubedtly one of our greatest ever players and would surely have won a lot more if it weren't for the form of Federer, Djokovic and Nadal.

Andy Murray is retiring from tennis this year?Screw injuries!A decent Tennis player Unlucky to play in the same era as Federer,Nadal&Djokovic Glad he won a few grand slams and got a knighthood for himself Oh and I can't forget his Finals speech at Australian Open 2015 to his wife

@mrjamesob @andy_murray 3 grand slams & 2 Olympic golds (so far) in the era that includes Djokovic, Nadal & Federer. Fantastic sporting achievements and a humble and decent man to boot. Always liked Sir Andy
11 Jan, 09:21 AM UTC
@CallumWright__ @andy_murray Agreed. Was in a era were he had to compete against the greatest trio in Federer Djokovic and Nadal and still managed to win 3 majors and get number 1 in the world. Don’t get the hate he gets from English fans in particular

@mikejt67 To achieve what he is in the same era as Nadal, Federer and Djokovic is incredible. Heartbreaking to watch that interview this morning

Andy Murray, British 🐐 and an absolute hero. To win what he has in a era of Fed, Nadal & Djokovic.. outstanding achievements imo
11 Jan, 09:28 AM UTC
Fair play to Andy Murray, what a career. To achieve what he has during a period where Federer, Nadal and Djokovic were all playing at their peak at some stage is immense 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

‘His three Grand Slams might have been worth twice that in another era. The counter-argument, of course, is that the murderous pursuit of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic is what hauled him to such otherworldly standards in the first place’

I grew up celebrating Tim Henman reaching semi-finals. Murray has gone toe to toe with Federer, Nadal and Djokovic during tennis’ greatest era and leaves with three grand slam titles. Rightly at the forefront of any debate over Britain’s greatest ever sportsman.

@shawmichael1 @TheCricketGeek Greatest arguments are always a bit personal anyway. I think in Murrays case, it's the era he's played in. To win 3 Grand Slams and be runner up in 9(i think) with Federer, Nadal and Djokovic is some doing. Plus Wimbledon is iconic to us.

@NatWebster Very sad - he’s a genuine ‘heart and soul’ player - someone who would’ve been one of the absolute greats had it not have been for Federer, Djokovic and Nadal. Would’ve won 15+ slams.

Sad news about Andy Murray having to retire. He can look back with pride on what he’s achieved at a time when Federer, Nadal & Djokovic were around. He’s the best British tennis player I’ve ever seen and a great sportsman; perhaps the greatest ever from the UK!

@HenryJackson87 Unlucky to be in the era of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. Couldve won a load more slams.
11 Jan, 09:01 AM UTC
@bayernoatcake2 @RockcliffeFiles Don’t think he’s ever truly got the respect or the credit he deserves because some people didn’t like how he came across. For anyone to become Number 1 during the era of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic is phenomenal; it’s a shame he wasn’t able to retain it for longer
11 Jan, 09:00 AM UTC
We'll miss you Sir @andy_murray . A real fighter on and off court. Being number 1 in the Djokovic-Federer-Nadal era is not an easy thing. Cheers mate and good luck! #respect #big4 #AustralianOpen
11 Jan, 08:59 AM UTC
@hannahjwilkes 3 grand slams in the Federer, Nadal, Djokovic era is equivalent to 10 in most other eras; and I even include the Sampras/Agassi era becos there wasn’t as much depth beyond those 2 as there is now. So sad but what a hero!
11 Jan, 08:58 AM UTC
Andy Murray to retire in 2019 😨 He did we in an era of Nadal, Djokovic and Federer. Having to fave 3 of the all time greats at every stage thought his career wasn't an easy route. PledgeSports's photo on Nadal and Djokovic

I’ve grown up a huge fan of tennis 🎾 Andy Murray winning Wimbledon is one of the best sporting moments I’ve seen. In an age of the best all time players like Djokovic , Federer & Nadal Andy Murray stood toe to toe with them and played some amazing tennis. 👏🏻 #AndyMurray Brian McLachlan's photo on Nadal and Djokovic

Absolutely gutted about Andy Murray, but what a career he’s had! Won almost everything in tennis despite being in the same era as Federer, Nadal and Djokovic and certainly the best British sportsman of my lifetime! Hopefully he can make it to Wimbledon for a fitting finish!

@Chisanga_Malata When you consider that he won three grand slams in the era of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic- he’s in with a shout. Also two-time Olympic gold medalist.

@James_Smailes Will you ever see Nadal v Djokovic in the first round, never , its unfair on the rest of the competition, then they play 5 minutes and sit down for a rest

Andy Murray has been one of the best best British sportsmen of all time in arguably the best ever era of his sport, featuring Nadal, Djokovic and Federer as well. A great career. #Murray #tennis

@jjvallejoa "No, no, no, Federer's playing style is just injury-proof, and has nothing to do with luck. It had the gift of foresight, unlike the ugly brinkmanship the newer generation brings. Fuck Murray, Nadal, and Djokovic." -- A Federer fan's Id.

To achieve what he did with Nadal, Federer and Djokovic is the ultimate accolade and finally banished 'Henman Hill' as the embodiment of failure in British tennis. A, if not, THE greatest British sportsman @andy_murray 👏👏

@grahamtait_aufc He's been a good tennis player. And I like the guy. He won't go down as a great of tennis the same way Borg, McEnroe, Agassi, Sampras, Nadal, Federer and Djokovic do; nor is he Scotland's best ever sportsperson. Not a chance.

So saddened by the Andy Murray news 😥 I’ll always remember when he broke down after he lost his first Wimbledon final and he said to the crowd “I’m getting closer.” What he went on to achieve was phenomenal, in the Federer/Nadal/Djokovic era as well. A true sporting legend.

We've really lived in a time of sporting greatness, between Messi and Ronaldo; Federer,Nadal Djokovic and Murray; Tiger Woods; Ronny O'Sullivan; MS Dhoni, and more, it's gonna be crazy to think in a few years they'll all have retired. 🤷‍♂️

Never was my favourite player but this is so tough to watch. He is part of arguably the greatest generation of tennis where himself, Federer, Nadal and Djokovic constantly pushed each other and the game to new levels. Hope he gets to go out on his own terms at Wimbledon.
11 Jan, 09:09 AM UTC
@Jamie_Lindsay Losing out to Djokovic, Nadal and Federer, arguably the 3 best players ever has put a negative spin on his talent and achievements as well. If he had been around in the Henman era... a different story maybe? Sampras and who?

Andy Murray - first british male to win Wimbledon in 77 years, beat arguably the greatest of all time to win a gold medal and became world number 1 in a sport dominated by all time greats (Nadal, Djokovic and Fed). Outstanding career if i don't so say myself!

This man will always be a legend 👌 He's played in the same generation as Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic and spent 41 weeks as world number 1. 👏 Mad respect 👏

Brutal achieve what he did with Nadal,Djokovic and Federer at the top of their game was immense. I also tip my cap @andy_murray superb career

Gutted for @andy_murray, unlucky to be playing same time as nadal Federer and Djokovic. Won’t be a “British” 😏 player as good as him for a long time
