If Democrats want to understand how they lost to Trump despite gaining tons of ground in places like Charlotte & the Triangle, they need to visit Robeson County, NC right away.
Final Robeson Co. results: McCready (D) won it by just 1.1% tonight, despite winning it by 15.3% last fall. Just an awful performance that helped cost Dems this special.
There's no other way to say it: McCready (D) has turned in a terrible performance in low-income Robeson Co., where registered Ds outnumber Rs 60%-13% (not a typo) but Trump *won* in 2016.
McCready (D) won Robeson by 15.3% in 2018, but he's only ahead by *3.1%* w/ 92% reporting.
This is very odd. It calls out for investigation into the NC-9 vote results in Robeson County or its an ominous sign for Democrats. https://t.co/BqcxA3mDiP
A key ingredient to Dan Bishop's (R) #NC09 win was Robeson County, in the eastern part of the district. This was an Obama -> Trump county that McCready won by 15% in 2018. It nearly flipped tonight, with the Lumbee Indian precincts (in the west) moving most heavily GOP. #ncpol https://t.co/17Ci590wgk
My take away from North Carolina special election. Illegal voter crackdown has reduced Democrat margins by 3%. In Robeson County illegal voting was reduced by 12%.
Native Americans from the Lumbee Tribe are a plurality in Robeson County. Their politics are complicated -- they helped make Robeson one of the largest majority-minority counties to vote for Trump in '16 and appear to have come through for Bishop tonight: https://t.co/9giOKafcuL
How did McCready (D) lose #NC09? Looks like it all happened in Robeson County, where his vote share sunk by 6 percentage points relative to 2018.
Robeson County has quite the natural gas pipeline situation. The builders of this $7.5b pipeline have just decided to straight up lie to regulators that it’s going to terminate in LUMBERTON (pop. 21,000), rather than continue on into South Carolina. https://t.co/XeG0YmJVlG
I think a lot of people think this means that the Lumbee Indians changed their minds. It might have more to do with the fact they stayed at home. 32K total votes in 2018 in Robeson, 21K tonight.
8/ Robeson uses HAND MARKED paper ballots counted on ES&S’s DS200 scanners. The HAND MARKED ballots do no good if no one looks at them. NC looks at just 2 precincts I believe. https://t.co/1u8Jk7660f
7/ McCready clobbered in Robeson in early voting. Completely lost that advantage on Election Day. https://t.co/66dYUKMvx1
I lied, I'm not in bed yet
Union Co just finished reporting. A big Charlotte suburb, it's Bishop's stronghold. Bluer Cumberland, Robeson, Mecklenburg, & other counties are way behind in tallying.
We may well have already seen Bishop's high water mark.

Robeson County is only 26% White the rest is a mix of Native American and Black. Why these wild swings? What voting systems are used? Can it be audited? Is something #RottenInRobeson
Turnout cratered in Robeson county, which is only 32% white. Running as a milquetoast centrist in the Trump era is not a winning strategy.
Trump didn’t run...he will in 2020. And win by more than 304-227. McCready lost by .04% first elec. He lost by 2.2% this time. Look at Robeson Co. (majority minority - only 10% of counties in US like this)...McCready LOST 14pts in Robeson from 1st elec!:) KAG2020!
You are correct. https://t.co/ZmveY6bpOP
Something happened with the Lumbee Tribe in Robeson County. I think its 2 fold. Messaging and see what happened with the Lumbee Tribe with 55,000 voters.
@gop cheated. Mccready was beating Bishop in every district by higher percentages than the last election. Then suddenly a flip and 4000 votes dropped from McCready to Bishop's favor. Share. Something fishy in Robeson County. https://t.co/CilvDcUyoi
Saluti you can read it here: Thread by @jennycohn1

Let’s follow what happened in Robeson County. Cuz the 14% suddenly redshift is odd. But let’s let the data drive the inquiry first. No conspiracy theories pls.
Robeson County has something fishy going on. McCready was beating Bishop in every district by higher percentages than last election. Suddenly a 4000 vote drop on McCready to Bishop's favor. @gop
