7 am. Passed out in car for 2 hours. (I'd pulled it between these buildings for safety last night.) Just woke up. Grey sky. Wind rustling. I think Gulf Shores is still in eye of #Hurricane #SALLY—or maybe just coming out of it. (Hard to know. Mobile radar down—Eglin attenuated.)
Relocated to #OrangeBeach, #alwx, from #Gulfshores, through some insane winds, horizontal blinding rain, and flooded roads! Here is what that adventure was like! #Hurricane #Sally https://t.co/C0gUVl4E4s
While #Sally is still thrashing the Gulf Coast, further inland, the danger is still to come. Inland flooding from extreme rainfall will be a major hazard as Sally moves northeastward later this week.
Although Hurricane #Sally is only ~30 miles from the Alabama Coast, it might not make landfall for another 15 HOURS or so since it’s moving around 2mph.
This could allow for even more strengthening before landfall and prolong severe impacts.
A slow moving disaster. https://t.co/MU8FskAQg3
#Sally is the first hurricane to make landfall in Alabama since Ivan in 2004 and the fourth hurricane to make landfall in the mainland U.S. so far this year. Follow live updates on the storm: https://t.co/L45RN6s75k
Pensacola is experiencing severe flooding from #Sally. I'm headed to the region this morning to meet with emergency response officials to see what kind of support they need. Also, deployed 3 Urban Search & Rescue Teams. We've been here before, and we'll get through this together.
