Tough offseason for Cubs fans so far.
Turns out Kyle Schwarber made out better financially in 2021 with his new one-year, $10 million contract with the #Nats than if the #Cubs had kept him and taken him to salary arbitration.
A lot can (and probably will) still change, but this is potentially what the Nats lineup looks like today:
SS Turner
RF Soto
1B Bell
LF Schwarber
2B Castro
3B Kieboom
C Gomes
CF Robles
(My opinion: They still need another guy to hit near the top of the lineup.)
Kyle Schwarber's contract with the #Nats:
He will be paid $7 million in 2021 with a $11 million mutual option in 2022 or a $3 million buyout.
The Nationals have a one-year agreement with Kyle Schwarber, source confirms. The deal is pending physical.
@dougherty_jesse was first with the news.
The Cubs shredded $75 million so far this offseason by nontendering Kyle Schwarber, trading Yu Darvish, and Jon Lester’s and Jose Quintana’s contracts coming off the books.
They’re WELL under the luxury tax going into 2021. A trade involving Kris Bryant is 100% inexcusable.
The Yankees have long had interest in Kyle Schwarber. And though they expressed as much again this winter, things never got to the point of making an offer.

@BNightengale Cubs look terrible here because that is a team friendly deal the Nats gave Schwarber. Ricketts too poor to afford that? If so he should just sell the team so he can buy another yacht #cubs
