Palmer Report
Difficult to imagine DOJ prosecutors leaking to the media that they’ve recommended to their superiors that Matt Gaetz not be charged, and leaking to the media that their own cooperating witnesses aren’t credible. Makes you wonder about the legitimacy of WaPo’s sourcing in this.

As you perhaps know by now, the WaPo published an article saying Gaetz is unlikely to be charged with underaged sex-trafficking. It's a strange article, especially since DOJ NEVER LEAKS. Many on Twitter panned it. Joel Greenberg's attorney Fritz Scheller reacted as follows (more)

+1 - count me in the “skeptical of this sourcing” group. WaPo is going to be left with an egg on their face if/when Gaetz is indicted. https://t.co/bRMhcxFPYx

All worrying about today's WaPo claim that "prosecutors recommended against charging" Matt Gaetz - it's actually good news; it's by @DevlinBarrett who wrote that FBI found "no grand [Jan 6] conspiracy" the week before the 1st seditious conspiracy charge 1/ https://t.co/sTZbl5NaPC

Joel Greenberg’s attorney is now casting serious doubt on the WaPo article about Matt Gaetz supposedly having been let off the hook. Not that you can just take Greenberg at his word. But it’s yet another reason this WaPo article must be scrutinized, and not just accepted as true.

On Matt Gaetz. First, Devlin Barrett writes WaPo story relying on unnamed sources. Next, @MuellerSheWrote expresses 'serious skepticism'. Then, the same @DevlinBarrett retweets MSW's post!⬇️ And, Joel Greenberg's lawyer says he's heard nothing to suggest Gaetz is off the hook. https://t.co/OK9FYrTJwV

So this WaPo article will go widely viral and get huge traffic numbers. And if it later turns out to have been wrong, no one will remember or care. The media always benefits from, and never pays a price for, running with (true or false) doomsday narratives. And it knows it.
23 Sep, 05:03 PM UTC
The WaPo source on Gaetz is an anonymous "people familiar with the matter" - not prosecutors. Not only would it be illegal for DOJ to leak, absolutely no one at DOJ is going to talk to Barrett since his previous story about the Mar-a-Lago docs was used against DOJ in court. 2/ https://t.co/1d5LuYlEPQ
23 Sep, 05:54 PM UTC
The two recent WaPo stories use identical language to describe their anonymous sources: "according to people familiar with the matter". Those people are not DOJ. They're on the other side, people who want this story in the press now, for some reason. It's planted propaganda. 4/ https://t.co/xQRkWwYgQo

Any news organization falls for spin. It is an occupational hazard. But usually Wapo, Washington Post is better than this. That story stinks to high heaven and has a CLEAR bias. Wapo should have done better. Shame on Wapo

The Jan 5 WaPo story on the Capitol attack claimed FBI found no ' grand conspiracy', and painted attackers as "mostly everyday Americans including community leaders and small-business owners". The source: Jonathan Turley, who testified for Trump during his 1st impeachment. 6/ https://t.co/mZrDgrbucP
23 Sep, 06:25 PM UTC
One week after that Jan 5 WaPo story, the DOJ finally made an announcement - that they'd indicted militia leader Stewart Rhodes and ten of his Oath Keepers for seditious conspiracy. The WaPo story seems meant to undercut this news. 7/ https://t.co/311HPFFIx7
23 Sep, 06:27 PM UTC
The WaPo language pooh-poohing a 'grand conspiracy' is oddly similar to that in a Reuters article 6 months prior, that cited anonymous sources saying FBI found no 'grand scheme'. It mentioned Alex Jones by name - and 3 days later FBI arrested Alex Jones' partner Owen Shroyer. 8/ https://t.co/iDbEoP2uBJ

This is how crap the Wapo story is. The attorney to Joel Greenberg - who pleaded guilty and is cooperating with Feds - says he has no knowledge of any such sentiment at DOJ and that he'd be SURPRISED if it was so Why did Wapo not bother to research its story. Shame Wapo! https://t.co/3YTnkf7sRF

If this bogus Wapo story had merit - then the EVIDENCE would support the story. The EVIDENCE says the OPPOSITE If Joel Greenberg was an unreliable witness, the DOJ would not have multiple CONVICTIONS on criminals Joel ratted out This is Roger Stone desperate spin in Wapo @tomiahonen's photo on WaPo

The original WaPo report is highly suspect. They list Joel Greenberg as someone prosecutors feel is not credible, which would undermine over a year’s worth of cooperation and multiple sentencing delays, which makes zero sense…(cont.) https://t.co/Frrh0802O2
